I really enjoy celebrating the major Chinese holidays, which typically involve eating lots of delicious food. We had a Dragon Boat feast over the weekend while at the beach. It was so yummy, very hao chi. I picked up the traditional Dragon Boat Festival food, zongzi, from our local Asian food market. Then we also made a lot of jiaozi (dumplings), crab fried rice, and crabmeat wontons. The zongzi is not our favorite food to eat, but it’s always fun to try new foods!
Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated every year on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a very famous poet-patriot who lived during ancient Chinese times. It also marks the start of summer and many dragon boat races are run throughout the world! We had intentions of doing mini-dragon boat races in the pool for the kids, but it didn’t happen. Maybe next year 🙂
