We studied the art element of shape at our Bridges homeschool community day a few weeks back. We (me included) all had a ton of fun with this lesson. After we talked about shape, we did a short artist study about the talented Faith Ringgold, and then created story quilts to mimic her work. We weren’t actually quilting, but glue was flying with squares of patterned scrapbook paper. I so enjoyed watching the creativity come alive as the children told their stories.
We all agree that we are loving the added addition of more involved art lessons and artist studies. We have many more cool artists to learn about and projects to create ahead of us. I fully admit that I am definitely not an art teacher, but a little research and trusty resources go a long way. Well that, and lots of fun art supplies.
