Washes

Herbal washes are an overlooked but practical way to use herbs. And preparing them is as easy and making an herbal infusion or decoction! They can be used in a variety of ways:

  • to calm itchy skin,
  • to use in a neti pot for a sinus rinse,
  • to wash a wound,
  • to use as a mouthwash,
  • and more!

Preparing a Wash

To prepare a wash, simply dip a cloth (linen, cheesecloth, cotton flannel) in your preferred herbal infusion/decoction, and rinse or soak the desired area. You can use a soaked cloth or simply pour the infusion over the area. Washes can be stored in the refrigerator for 24-28 hours. They can also be frozen in ice cube trays for later use.

Wound Wash

An herbal wound wash is a gentle way to clean cuts and scrapes using vulnerary antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory herbs. It soothes the affected area and promotes the body’s innate ability to heal. Herbs to consider for a wound wash include:

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” -Hebrews 10:22
