Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not homeschooling my favorite students, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use herbs and essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

2015 Chinese New Year Library

I love books.  LOVE BOOKS.  You can find books in just about every room of my house.  I’m not sure my husband appreciates my book obsession, but hopefully my children will.  At least one day.  I also love celebrating my Chinese children’s birth heritage.  We have a lot of fun with Spring Festival.  One of the ways we do that is with books.

I’ve added nine new books to our Chinese New Year/Spring Festival library, and I would definitely recommend all of them!  I wish I had time to review them individually, but I will just say for now that they’re all great in their own ways.  They all offer something different, and I love being able to give lots of variety to my children.  We’ve had fun reading all of them, and I already have new ones on my list for next year.

I bought the first “Year of the …” book last year for 2014’s horse zodiac animal.  It was cute, so I added 2015’s sheep, as well as Sunshine’s and Dumpling’s zodiac animals, the tiger and rabbit.  Although they don’t teach about Spring Festival directly, the stories are cute, the illustrations are fun, and I think it’s sweet to add a new zodiac animal book each year.  If you are looking for books that are more directly related to CNY though, I’d probably hold off on those purchases.  The first four above would be great books to start a library – they tell New Year stories and have great illustrations.  Below are the other favorite titles we have, all books I would also highly recommend.  Xin nian kuai le!
