I don’t use Onion Soup Mix very much, but I do keep a stash on hand for making my Daddy’s meatloaf. It’s one of my favorite comfort foods. With all of this social distancing and quarantining stuff going on, I was really craving meatloaf and mashed potatoes recently. I needed to make some more Onion Soup Mix for the recipe though, so I thought I’d share the ingredients on the blog. Especially as we’re all supposed to be limiting our errand-running, it’s a good recipe to have on hand. And of course, the best part is that it’s made of all real ingredients, no MSG or caramel color or corn syrup or other additives that I cannot pronounce. Though it does take a bit longer to mix it at home compared to opening a packet, it’s so worth it to me to avoid the chemicals that often come along with processed foods.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup minced onions
- 3 tsp parsley flakes
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp ground turmeric root
- 1 tsp celery seed
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp cane sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
- Mix all of the ingredients together and store in an airtight container.
- Use 4 tbsp of mix to replace one packet of Onion Soup Mix.
- Shake well before each use, as the finer spices tend to sit at the bottom.
