Chasing truth, beauty, goodness, and all things naturally wholistic.

Faith over fear.

Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not homeschooling my favorite students, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use herbal remedies and essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

Oils 101 | Lavender

Lavender is one of the most versatile essential oils available!  It is such a relaxing scent to unwind from a long day. It maintains healthy skin, and promotes a calm environment, day and night.  It’s a great essential oil to add to a nighttime bath for that very reason.

You can add one drop on the top of your head and rub it in to help with calming.  It has a sweet, floral aroma that is soothing, relaxing and refreshing.  And with the Young Living Lavender Vitality oil, it can also be ingested as well.

Lavender is gentle enough that it doesn’t require dilution in adults, but as always, take special care when using it with children.  Because Lavender is one of the most versatile of all essential oils, the uses for this plant are almost endless.

Ways to use Lavender:

➕Diffuse 3-5 drops in bedrooms to help promote a restful night’s sleep or simply to create a calming environment

➕Roll onto feet for a calming effect

➕Add a drop to a pinch of coconut oil and rub on dry lips

➕Apply a drop to a scrape or minor burn before applying a band-aid

➕Unwind by adding a few drops to epsom salts in a relaxing bath

➕Rub several drops into the ends of dry or brittle hair

➕Massage 2-4 drops into your muscles, then stretch and breathe deeply

➕Add a couple of drops to your favorite natural body lotion to moisturize and enhance skin radiance – my favorite products are the Young Living Genesis lotion or the Young Living KidScents lotion for the littles

➕Add a few drops to a cotton ball and place in a drawer to scent linens/clothes

➕During season changes, roll onto chest with Lemon and Peppermint essential oils, diluted with a carrier oil

➕One drop of Lavender oil and one drop of Cedarwood oil in a new mascara tube is a terrific combination that smells amazing, and it’s great for your lashes

➕Try a similar blend in your diffuser at bedtime to promote a relaxing sleep – 6 drops Lavender, 3 drops Cedarwood, and 3 drops Vetiver

➕With the same combination, make a Chillax Roller, my most favorite blend that I am never without to support calming and focus

➕Bathroom Surface Cleaner

  • 6 ounces White Vinegar
  • 6 ounces Distilled Water
  • 10 drops Lemon oil
  • 12 drops Lavender oil

Combine into a 12-ounce spray bottle and use to help clean and disinfect bathrooms

Ways to use Lavender Vitality:

➕To create elegant dishes that will impress your friends and family, add Lavender Vitality to your recipes. The herb has a sweet, slightly floral flavor that pairs well with both rich and light foods.  It is one of the main ingredients in the popular spice blend, Herbs de Provence.

➕Although more popular with sweeter recipes, Lavender Vitality oil’s benefits extend to savory dishes as well. Put a new spin on a classic meal and pair it with chicken, lamb or even potatoes.

➕To avoid overwhelming your food, start small. Try dipping a toothpick in your oil and then swirling the toothpick in your food. Try mixing it into a fatty ingredient first, like butter or oil.

➕Make homemade fruit jams, lavender-lemonade or a citrus sorbet. Try out some shortbread, pound cake, ice cream, meringue or whipped cream recipes.

➕And finally, balance Lavender Vitality in savory dishes with herbs such as thyme, rosemary and oregano.
