Chasing truth, beauty, goodness, and all things naturally wholistic.

Faith over fear.

Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not teaching fine arts to my favorite upper school students at our incredible classical Christian school, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

Our first day redo

Sometimes even the first day of school desperately needs a redo, and we’re a shining example of that.  Yes, sometimes the whole entire day simply needs a redo.  It was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate to the kids that sometimes things just go wrong, but there’s always some mercy or blessing to find, no matter how small.  Lemonade from lemons!

We started by holding orientation on Monday with introductions to curricula and expectations.  After that, we attempted a full first day of school yesterday, but it was, truthfully, a complete disaster for a multitude of reasons.  So we’re documenting our first day of school, take two … which I guess makes this our second day of school pictures.

Peyton will be a sophomore this year and is starting fully online with her school.  We’re praying hard this changes sooner rather than later, because virtual classes, while sitting in front of a computer all day, are downright draining and difficult.  I do love having her at home, but I know it’s really hard on her.

Everyone else will be homeschooled for the 2020-2021 school year.  Ryan is a 7th grader, Brooklyn is a 5th grader, and Ben is a 3rd grader.  If you’re curious, HERE is what we’ll be studying this year.  I did not have intentions of homeschooling all three younger kiddos again, #butCovid.  It’s clearly where the Lord is leading, and we feel at peace with the decision. Regardless of how we got here, I’m excited about the gift of another year with my loves and I’m looking forward to all that the 2020-2021 school year brings. It truly is a gift to get more time with them, even (especially) with all the crazy redo-desperately-needed days included.  If only we could get Covid out of the picture …

May God richly bless all the families starting back to school, however that may look. Let’s do this!
