Chasing truth, beauty, goodness, and all things naturally wholistic.

Faith over fear.

Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not teaching fine arts to my favorite upper school students at our incredible classical Christian school, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

Updated Jenga Memory Work Review Game

During homeschool planning this week, I updated my original Jenga Memory Review Game to be more flexible.  It’s been one of my most popular blog posts, bur the game doesn’t always work the way I had set it up before.  It’ll now work for memory review, no matter how many weeks we are into the new grammar.  I labeled the grammar subjects (evenly divided) directly on all of the Jenga blocks with a sharpie.  I included our scripture memory work, so each subject got 6-7 blocks.  Then, I labeled weeks on the back of the blocks evenly distributed for all of the subjects.  This averaged out to about 4 weeks labeled on each block.  Hopefully the pictures below will show what I’m (not doing a very good job of) explaining.

We play the game like normal Jenga, except that each player also recites the corresponding memory work on the block they choose.  We can use the game with only the subjects for earlier weeks’ review, or we can chose to use one of the weeks on the back of the block too.  I may have the player choose, or just choose myself.  Or I suppose the player could recite all of the memory work weeks on the block.  And if a block has weeks on it we haven’t gotten to, we can pick another week.  It’s not  full-proof, but I feel like this update gives us more flexibility.
