Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not homeschooling my favorite students, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use herbs and essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

CC Memory Box

I think the Memory Box is originally from Charlotte Mason to memorize scripture, but many Classical Conversations moms have adapted it to work with the CC grammar. I’ve had the idea pinned for … longer than I want to admit. So I finally got it put together just in time before we meet with our community. I have it set up this way:

Daily: Current week’s memory work
Odd & Even: Two prior week’s memory work
Monday: History & Geography from past weeks of current cycle
Tuesday: English from past weeks of current cycle
Wednesday: Latin from past weeks of current cycle
Thursday: Math from past weeks of current cycle
Friday: Science from past weeks of current cycle
1-24: Memory work from previous cycles (Week 1 from both cycles goes behind Tab #1, Week 2 behind Tab #2, etc.)

Yes, I did write out all of the memory work individually on index cards. It is time consuming, but I’m through Week 12 in Cycles 1 & 2. I have a little bit further to go, but I’m almost there. We work on Timeline separately with the song, so I chose not to add it into the weekly tabs. I am using a large box so I can keep our scripture and Bible books memorization in separate tabs behind the CC material. And for later, I have flashcards of the states & capitals printed and ready for review. We’ve been using this memory box method for the past week and it’s working pretty well so far. It’s not fancy or super fun, but it gets the job done! I fell off the memory work bandwagon after my China trip in March and then working on adoption paperwork, so I am really excited to see how the Memory Box system works for us.
