Chasing truth, beauty, goodness, and all things naturally wholistic.

Faith over fear.

Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not homeschooling my favorite students, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use herbs and essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

What are essential oils?

ESSENTIAL OILS are the aromatic liquids found within plants – shrubs, trees, flowers, bushes, resins, roots, and seeds.  They are the most highly concentrated component of the life blood of plants and often considered nature’s living energy.  Primarily extracted through careful steam distillation, but also through cold pressing, the purest oils are far more powerful and effective than dry herbs, delivering quick and effective results.  They are incredibly concentrated and powerful.  In fact, 1 drop of peppermint oil is equal to 24 cups of peppermint tea!  One bottle goes a long way.

Are they a new fad?

Essential oils have been used for centuries in many cultures.  The Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Europeans, Persians, and Chinese have used oils for health, beauty, fragrance, and spiritual practice.  Even Hippocrates used aromatherapy for massage techniques.  There are many references to oils in historical texts, including the Bible.  Though the oils we use today are much more potent thanks to modern distillation processes, ancient civilizations were definitely using rudimentary distilling techniques to extract the essences of plants.  So, no, essential oils aren’t a fad.  Their use is very traditional in nature, especially compared to modern medicine and healthcare interventions.

How can essential oils help me?

Oils are an excellent compliment to a natural wellness lifestyle.  They can help support the different systems of the body: muscular, nervous, digestive, etc.  They can help with emotional needs, as well as calming, focus, stress relief, and sleep.  Likewise, oils can support a daily prevention routine.  They are also a fantastic alternative to room sprays, candles, home cleaning products, laundry, and personal care products.

Why Young Living?

Young Living inspires wellness, purpose, and abundance by distilling nature’s greatest gifts into the purest essential oils.  With a commitment to plant purity and essential oil potency, Young Living continues to grow, inspiring millions of people to transform their lives.  What started out as a small business in 1994 has boomed into the world leaders of essential oils.  You can be assured that when you are using Young Living products, you are getting the best of the best!  They own their own farms, all over the world … and take great pride in their farming practices, which are beyond organic.  Oppositely, purchasing essential oils in grocery stores (even health food stores) or other online stores without knowing the company’s practices can mean the possibility of synthetic ingredients, fillers, or other additives and contaminants.  Not all essential oils are created equal, and quality really matters.  Especially because oils are not regulated by the FDA, consumers really need to know where their oils are coming from.  Please visit Seed to Seal for more information on Young Living’s rigorous quality control standards – you’ll see that their products can always be trusted to be pure.

Why does quality matter?

Pure essential oils are therapeutic grade and do not contain chemicals or additives.  In fact, the inexpensive oils that are on the market can include synthetics, cheap fillers, contaminants, and fake fragrance.  “Fragrance” is a blanket term for over 3,500 extremely toxic chemicals that are not regulated by the FDA.  Believe it or not, companies aren’t required to disclose the ingredients in “fragrance” because they’re considered “trade secrets.”  These ingredients can sometimes be the cause of allergies and other negative effects.  Additionally, they likely won’t help you achieve your desired results and could simply be a waste of money.

Pure essential oils are always 100% natural and completely void of those toxic chemicals.  Always be certain that your oils are pure, therapeutic grade oils to take advantage all of the benefits.  That’s why it’s so important to purchase essential oils from a company you can trust.
