Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not teaching fine arts to my favorite upper school students at our incredible classical Christian school, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

Our Quarantine Diffuser “Theme Song”

When all of the kids started back to school-at-home again in March for quarantine, I started diffusing this amazing-smelling blend of Bergamot, Peppermint, and Cinnamon Bark.  I love it so much that it’s stuck with me as my go-to daily diffuser blend.  It’s an incredible way to emotionally support the kids while they’re trying to get their school work knocked out in the face of so much uncertainty.

Here’s why I chose these particular oils:

Bergamot is known for it’s soothing, calming, anxiety-reducing, mood-lifting qualities.  It’s one of my most favorite oils.  It has a spicy citrusy scent that I think goes with everything.  It’s regularly a frequent flyer in my diffuser.  But especially now given all of the upheaval and unusual circumstances in which we find ourselves during quarantine, Bergamot is a must-have for me.

Peppermint has a purifying, alerting, and stimulating fragrance while also inspiring a sense of peace.  It’s a great one to get the day moving, but it also invokes focus and attention, which is another reason it’s a must-have during school work time.

Cinnamon Bark is another favorite scent, though the kids often remark that it reminds them of Christmas.  It has a stimulating quality, which is sometimes needed to get through all the school work assignments!  Paired with Bergamot and Peppermint, though, it really adds such a nice comforting aroma.

Now I want to hear from you … what have you been diffusing during quarantine?
