I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not teaching fine arts to my favorite upper school students at our incredible classical Christian school, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

#Blizzard2016

What a weekend!  We’re not completely sure how much snow actually accumulated because the snow drifts are so dramatic.  There are humongous piles coming up to our windows in some places, while grass and pavement are exposed in others.  Such a crazy and beautiful snow storm!  We were prepared for the worst with lots of food, full tanks of gas, laundry done, etc., but it was all unnecessary.  We didn’t lose power for even a minute!  Our biggest issue was trying to get out of our driveway, which is significantly longer than our old one.  Fortunately a new belt on the snow blower, along with the selfless plowing help of a neighbor, made the hard work go by quickly.

As pretty as the snow is, I have been happy to hold down the fort inside.  With a hot cup of coffee in hand, I watch from the window as the big kids sled everywhere and throw snow at each other.  I’m perfectly satisfied to bake and cook and have hot chocolate prepared and throw all the snowy clothes in the dryer.  All while the little ones play together inside and watch movies.

I do have plans to take them out sometime this week to play, but it’s just so much snow.  I don’t expect them to last very long, but maybe they’ll prove me wrong and I’ll be the one who won’t last!  Angel is now wearing my only pair of snow boots too, so it’s difficult to be in the snow at the same time as her.  This was a serious, record-breaking snow fall!  I’m so glad that we got to experience this blizzard in the new house!  The breathtaking blankets of snowfall are definitely a sight to behold.  So serene and peaceful.
