My dear friend, Kelly, invited me to the beach with her back in May of 2013 when my husband was in China. I was having a difficult time coping with not being able to talk to him for so long, so Kelly suggested a little getaway to pass the time. We stayed at her parents’ beach house, and it was exactly what I needed. All of the children got along swimmingly and I had the opportunity to catch up with a sweet friend.
At the time, we had no idea what had been set into motion. Fast forward two years, and Kelly’s parents still own their beach retreat. But my family now also has the privilege of long, lazy vacations in the condo right above theirs. We’ve shared many more good times together. Relaxed beach days, reading poolside, watching fireworks, endless conversations over coffee, sharing meals, game playing, New Year’s Eve celebrations, and hours of laughter.
And I’m pretty sure the kids have fun too, especially if the dramatic goodbye is any indication.
Today, I’m thankful for precious friends and the priceless time we share together. No matter where we are.
