Chasing truth, beauty, goodness, and all things naturally wholistic.

Faith over fear.

Ephesians 2:8-10

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart since 2003. Together, we have four amazing children, by birth and adoption. When I am not teaching fine arts to my favorite upper school students at our incredible classical Christian school, I spend my days on our 7-acre property where I try my best to love my family well and experiment with hobby homesteading. My favorite things to do are cultivate my ever-expanding gardens, wrangle chickens, ferment all the things, sourdough bake with einkorn flour, and figure out new ways to use essential oils. I believe God has tasked us to be good stewards of our spaces in the world, and I guide my children to do the same.

I am a board member of The Sparrow Fund and an Empowered to Connect Facilitator. I love to dig in the dirt, cook nourishing food, capture beauty through my camera lens, watch the sunrise on the beach, and spend time with good literature on my porch while sipping on a hot cup of coffee.

The dreaded screening

I used to dread my yearly “health screening” for the insurance company. Watching my blood pressure creep up over the years, having to go to the 150lb+ mark on the scale, seeing my wider waist measurement … I always put the appointment off until the last minute. It was a reminder of how much I wasn’t taking care of myself. A reminder of how much I had let my health slip away.

But through a commitment to holistic living, including eating whole foods, taking a serious look at and ditching the toxins in my environment, and embracing a preventative lifestyle (self care, friends!), I finally learned to truly take care of myself. I feel incredible. I feel comfortable in my body. I feel free. For the first time, I am experiencing true wellness and abundance.

And for the first time, I didn’t dread going to my health screening today. I was actually happy to do it. And I want desperately for other moms to feel this freedom. If you are struggling with your health, I have been in your shoes and I know how you feel.  I want to encourage you to take the first step.

Today.

Drink that extra glass of water. Get a second helping of vegetables with dinner. Walk the steps instead of taking the elevator. Park at the back of the parking lot and walk (Yes, even in this cold, I do it!)  Pick something small and actionable and attainable, and just do it.

Holistic wellness is a lifelong journey and it takes time. No expensive programs. No gimmicks.  Just a commitment to wellness. Feeling this good is so very worth the effort.
